Hi! I'm Cheryl Ng, a Year 4 Computer Science + USP major, and I'll try and answer this for future reference.
First, I'll refer similar questions to a more objective answer on the process of support NUS provides for internships here . However, the question to be asking about internship experiences that are available with NUS, and I hope my subjective experience can be helpful regarding this.
I'm in my last semester of a 4-year programme now, whereby the basic programme requires us to do either 2 summer-long internships or 1 extended (> 6 months) internship. This can be replaced by the NUS Overseas College special programme, which aids you in seeking, attaining and completing a 6-month to 1 year-long start-up-related internship experience abroad, in a few established countries abroad. From experience, they also aid you in the interview-practising and resume-creation process. You can find out more here.
Having used TalentConnect rather frequently in my internship-hunting process, I've noted that it often contains offers for positions which are not necessarily visible in other job-hunting platforms. This may serve useful for you, provided that the employers you contact on TalentConnect are considering further hires, and have not already closed the hiring process with the number of students they are seeking. The status of these jobs will be updated on the platform as well, so you should have transparent access to such information to help in your application process.
All internships recognised by the university (at least for the Computing faculty) must also be posted and accepted through the TalentConnect platform, to facilitate the reflection process that allows you to complete the internship requirement through the particular internship experience.
NUS also has career counsellors for each faculty, who are dedicated to holding job fairs on a regular basis, for employers and potential interns to interact and find a fit, as well as being able to give recommendations to students regarding potential fitting internship companies for their interests and requirements. I've had sessions with the counsellors at my faculty, and found this to personally be rather helpful. NUSC will likely provide a similar resource in the upcoming years.
What I am saying, though, is that I think there's little lack of support in NUS' various systems regarding attaining an internship, especially if this is integral to your programme of interest. I hope this is helpful, and feel free to shoot another question if anyone like to hear more about any particular experiences. Thanks!
