To set some context, each academic year has 2 semesters. The first semester usually starts in August and ends in December, while the second semester starts in January and ends in May.
In addition to the public holidays, NUS’s academic calander consists of summer and winter holidays as well as a mid-semester break called Recess Week. Recess Week is week-long and for students to consolidate learning and rest before going into the second half of a semester.
Winter and summer holidays are after the semesterly final submissions/exams. The winter holidays generally start from early December (after Semester 1 Final Exams/submissions) to the second week of January. It’s the break between the first semester of an Academic Year and the second.
Summer holidays are longer, generally starting from the first week of May (after Semester 2 Final Exams/submissions) and ending in the first week of August. This is the break between one academic year and the next.
